Hello my fellow nurses! It's great to be a part of such a wonderful online nursing community full of support. I am from Chicago, IL and currently looking into enrolling at Western Governors University's Online RN-to-BSN Program (possibly RN-to-MSN). For those of you that received your BSN or MSN degrees from WGU, what universities did you attend to obtain your DNP/FNP/PhD? Did you attend online? Also, did you have a difficult time enrolling?

I ask because WGU has a "PASS/NOT PASS" grading system that will appear on official transcripts instead of actual letter grades. However, each PASS is equivalent to 3.0 GPA. I really don't want to have a difficult time seeking post-graduate universities to obtain an advanced nursing degree just because certain universities won't accept my transcripts due to said grading system. I would appreciate your informative responses. Thank you! :)

I have seen several posts from grads going on to a variety of schools.

You should contact the schools you're interested in and ask if they have a problem with the pass/fail.

I was accepted into the University of Memphis MSN/FNP program before I even graduated from WGU. No issues with the GPA. Halfway through the FNP program, I ended up switching my MSN major to Executive Leadership (basically, a fancier Administration MSN). I'm also dual-enrolled in WGU's MBA with a concentration in Healthcare Management.

I was accepted into the University of Memphis MSN/FNP program before I even graduated from WGU. No issues with the GPA. Halfway through the FNP program, I ended up switching my MSN major to Executive Leadership (basically, a fancier Administration MSN). May I ask, why you didn't take the MSN program at WGU? -Sorry for all the direct questions. I'm starting my shift at the moment and trying to ask as much as I can before I start my day :).

I have two kids in college and $$ is very tight. I'm going to wait until someone graduates.

I didn't take the MSN at WGU for a couple of reasons. WGU didn't (and still doesn't) offer a Nurse Practitioner option when I decided to pursue my MSN and I wanted local name recognition for my MSN.

U of M's MSN is 100% online for all didactic components of all concentrations. They offer FNP, Executive Leadership, Informatics, and Education concentrations. The only exception to being 100% online is, of course, the requirement for clinical hours.

I was accepted to U of M either March or April of 2013. I graduated with my BSN from WGU in May 2013.
