I'm a nursing graduate from the Philippines in 2006..I've read so many articles regarding the application for the the NCLEX in California Board.So many issues that I'm almost feeling discouraged to push through with it.

I've requested for a fingerprint card six weeks ago but it still hasn't reached me yet..

I'm just wondering if sending this fingerprint card could really take that long?

Does anyone have the same thing going on ?

It very well could take that long for the fingerprint card to reach you, especially if you're overseas. If you're within the US, it should take less time than that. Where you're going to be tripped up is ensuring that your theory clinical topics match up in the same semester. That's the "concurrency" issue that many, many non-California nurses have trouble with as it pertains to licensing and California's had this requirement for a long time. Your transcripts will also be gone over very closely as well because some people fraudulently submitted transcripts to get RN licenses. I doubt this will be a fast process for you.

There are many threads about this issue, and more, on this site. Just don't be surprised.

I may not have a problem with the authenticity of my transcripts but now that i think about the concurrency issue, it troubles me..i remembered having clinical duties for psychiatric nursing one summer and had the theory classes the next semester..and i think that goes the same with most nursing schools here in the Philippines..Nursing Schools from different provinces send their nursing students in Manila to complete an affiliation to hospitals and that's usually during the summer...and i agree that it's going to be a long process for me...

From what I understand, the concurrency issue is the one that causes the most problems for nurses from the Philippines when they try to get licensed in California. There are other states with similar requirements, but California is the most visible of the bunch. If you want to be a US RN, there are other states you can apply to as well, but California will want to be sure that you meet their educational standards, so that will apply even if you become an RN in another state and try to endorse that license over to California.

I would imagine that like a lot of people from the Philippines, you may end up going for LVN and then trying to get into an LVN to RN upgrade program unless you can figure out what "deficiencies" you may have as a result of the concurrency issue and take coursework specifically to make that up. I don't know if such coursework actually exists right now. Hopefully the path for you will make itself known soon.

If your theory and clinical were not taken at the exact same time then there is a very high chance you will be denied sadly. Search the board about the concurrency issues and search for the poster named "steppybay" as she has detailed information about this. No need to pay the CABON non refundable fees if you are going to be denied.

I finally received the fingerprint card today...i've actually researched which board of nursing would be easy to apply an ATT and Nevada came on top of the list (i think).. i should've applied for NCLEX after i received my local license in 2007, now, its totally frustrating...

i was reviewing my transcripts...Our psychiatric nursing clinical duty hours was the only thing that wasn't taken at the same time with the theory..we had the clinical duty in the summer, the theory the next semester..

There is a higher chances that your application will be denied by CA-BRN due to concurrency issues. I believe Nevada requires TOEFL and CES for IENs. Good luck with your nursing career BTW.
