A coworker was telling me about a program for NPs and other medical professionals where loans are forgiven after 10 years in repayment. Anyone else know about this?

I've looked into HRSA but only two places in my state meet requirements.

Then that is about it. With the plethora of nurses out there these programs don't really exist anymore.

Public service loan forgiveness. Health care providers qualify but I believe you have to work for a non profit company

keep in mind also if you should lose your job at the site you are at you will have to find a new site that will hire you , and it could mean moving out of state

I think it depends on how much money they have. They will start with the neediest places and fund practitioners for them, then work their way up to less needy places until the money runs out. I called HRSA to ask about this. The woman I spoke to (who seemed harried and not particularly into helping me) said that there's a chance you will get money even if you don't work in place with the lowest scores.

I was actually awarded the HRSA nurse corps scholarship while in nursing school. So the money has already been given to me... It's ip to me now to find a job in that category when I graduate. And the woman I spoke to as well wasn't very helpful or specific. She told me that the facility has to have a score between 0-25 for both primary and mental health. Mine has a score of 8 in primary care in a medically underserved community but no score for mental health. Then she tells me to document that I attempted to look for a facility with both. I was like huh?!
