amcurrently working as a CNA with a hospital in Alaska (I work acute and longterm care departments). My husband is on orders to Germany with the Army, and Iam set to move over there in early August. I am planning on working on my ASN/ BSN,but have no idea where to start, especially once I am overseas. We will have aneducation center on post, but I am looking for feedback on what prerequisiteswould be easiest to take online and which would be best to do in class. (I knowthat the required prerequisites vary between schools, but I don't know what RNschool I will apply to when the time comes, because I don't know where the Armywill be sending us next).

That's a tough one because the school you go to will determine the prereqs you need. Add in the fact that you will be going to a nursing school over seas, then I really can't say. I would think the usual anatomy, physiology, micro, etc BUT you would have to find out if the classes and credits would even transfer to the school you will attend. No point in taking it if you have to retake it later because the school you go to will not honor or recognize the class. Also, you may run into a similar issue if you have to change schools before earning your degree. It make take you longer and and you may have to take more courses.

I would take bio, chem, micro, a&p. These are generally universial pre reqs to nursing school, however, as stated above these classes may not transfer depending on where they are taken. But those are your basic science pre reqs for nursing school, other pre reqs vary from program to program. But if I'm not mistaken, those are almost always standard pre reqs.

I would really really recommend choosing a few schools you are interested in attending first and then shaping your prereqs around then. I know that is probably hard to do but even a preliminary 3-4 schools where you MAYBE would end up can help you focus.

In my experience schools really prefer you do your science classes with lab in a classroom. So opt for nutrition or developmental psychology online. Almost all schools do want Microbiology, A&P 1 & 2, AND Chemistry so contact some schools and see what they are okay with online. Unfortunately each school wants something different so that is why it is better to focus on a few actual schools you may attend.

Take any of the science courses that require lab (A&P, Micro). Most others can be taken online somewhere. If you move frequently, then opt for an ASN program for 2 yrs then a RN-BSN bridge online. Most schools will not accept other school's nursing credits.

This would be a good time to knock out all the non-science courses (like English, Algebra, Humanities, Social Science, Communication, Foreign Language, etc.) that need to be completed to get your BSN or ASN. Check the admissions criteria of the school you want to attend to make sure you're taking the correct course sequence. Also, if any of your science courses have pre-reqs (e.g. Micro requires Bio, Stats requires Algebra, etc.) you should get those knocked out.

I know for sure your science courses you will have lectures and labs. They may offer the lectures online, but lab you have to actually be in class. For me I had to be in class for sciences and math. The other ones aren't so bad online. Good luck to you.

Hi! I am new to this website and really don't know where to ask this...I just finished freshman year and was totally idiotic and didn't put in too much effort...I have an overall 2.0 gpa and I want to apply to UT houston nursing program this january. I think that with 2 summer classes and my next fall semester...I may raise my gpa to a 3-3.2 maybe but I'm not sure if that would be enough to get me into the program. I really really regret letting my gpa drop so low, any type of comment would be appreciated! I just dont know if I will make it even if I try my hardest to get a 3.0 gpa. Seems like everyone gets a lot higher than that.... help!
