Hello Everyone!

I am new here, and if this has been asked before I apologize! I am starting school in Sept for RPN and I was thinking of working for VON or St. Elizabeth, Bayshore, etc instead of going into a hospital. I was just wondering if I could get any feed back from RPNs who are currently working or have worked for one of these organizations. What did you like/not like, what was the pay like, etc. Any help would be much appreciated!! :)

I was offered a job at St. Elizabeth when I got out of school.I turned it down. Generally community nursing agencies don't pay well and offer little orientation. One thing about working in the community as a new grad is that you have to experience under your belt and thus nom experience to fall back on when you need to make a judgement call.Looking back now i'm glad I didn't take the job. I wouldn't recommend that kind of work for a new grad.

I'm not an RPN but I work for Bayshore as a side job. I like it. If I wanted to go fulltime I could, and it's a much better work environment than hospital-based acute care.

I did a placement with a home care company. My preceptor said in the end she makes more then if she were in the hospital after she writes off her expenses. She said she also can start late or early, and never misses a family event. Seems like a good deal to me.

Just make sure you get paid by the hour, not service. You make way less if you are paid by the service. I think by 2020 homecare will employ 60% of nurses or something like that, so there is defiantly a need.
