Yes, but it's very uncommon and highly dependent on the area. A full-time professional school nurse in a good district is most likely going to be an RN-BSN.

VBCPS will allow the LPN to work as a "clinic assistant." I did this for one school year and one summer school session. The pay is HORRIBLE!!! I took a $22k drop in pay in order to give it a try for a year and to have the same schedule as my kids. In addition, it was extremely boring..passing out band aids, sanitiary napkins and mid day meds. Oh not to mention, running interferance for the school vs. the parents with a million phone calls all day because of a "stomach ache" aka " I really just want to get out of class.". Not my idea of a challenging nursing role.

My asst. principal would allow me to cover the clinic as the RN when she was out sick and would give me her differential in pay for the day. Otherwise, the LPN could not be the mail nurse on a regular basis. Most cities still require the LPN to work "under the supervision" of a RN. In the end it wasn't worth it so I did not renew my contract for another school year.
