Where to get uniforms?

OK, found out yesterday that I have been selected for commission. Unfortunately I do not have any active duty bases nearby or even within reasonable driving distance. Any advice on where to get uniforms and gear online? I know there are a million stores out there, just seeing if anyone has any "go here, not here" or "this place has a great return policy...etc". I am looking to pick up the basic stuff (all uniforms, boots, misc gear), thanks.

Do you have access to AAFES at this point? If so, you can order your uniforms from clothing & sales online through shopmyexchange.com -- tax free, free shipping. If not, marlowwhite.com has comparable prices and relatively low shipping -- shipping is free for orders $250 and up, and if you're outfitting yourself completely, you'll reach that minimum with little difficulty.

Congrats on your selection!!! :)

I have the same problem.. nowhere real close to me to get uniforms. I've been buying the bulk of my stuff off uscav.com. ive been extremely happy with everything thus far, and always get everything in a pretty timely manor. i've also picked up some misc. things here and there off rangerjoes.com and acuarmy.com. If you're looking to purchase before the end of tomorrow.. here is a code i got in my email for 10% off at uscav.com pn12m10

Just make sure you don't do what i did and buy some of the stuff you'll be issued with your ta-50 lol..

You will have time to get uniforms when you get to COT. There aafes does nothing, but sell uniforms to officers and if you have issues you can exchange things there as well.

No, I meant Need4Speed305 isn't Air Force. I wasn't referring to you, Esh570, just replying to you.

My bad, thought they were AF. Get your recruiter to take you to a base then, that's what I did.

What is the uniform requirement for commissioning? At my recuiters office I have seen pictures of people in civillian clothes, but a ret O-3 at work told me that you can commission in your Class A uniform (which I guess is out now). So can you commission in ACUs? of ASU?

I commissioned at Ft. Sam on the stage of Blesse Auditorium in my ACUs with 100 other people. LOL. I also had an early "ceremonial" commissioning at my recruiter's office -- just wore civvies, I didn't even have a uniform yet. I recently swore in one of my coworkers who is commissioning into the Air Force (she needed an officer to do it, I guess any branch can!), and she wore civvies and I wore ACUs. You can keep it casual or go formal.

Sounds good! I hope to get commissioned the same day my recuiter says you've been selected!

If you're going active duty you will take your official oath when you report for duty. I did it in ACUs at Ft Sam, too. Your recruiter should have a solution for you when it comes to uniforms. The closest Army facility near me was a national guard post over 2 hours away, but a naval hospital in San Diego actually carried ACUs since they cared for wounded warriors there. Check into options like this!

If there is NOTHING available near you and you don't have AAFES access yet, ask your recruiter to help you order uniforms through his or her AAFES account.

If you're going to BOLC, you can show up to Ft Sam in civvies and immediately go to Clothing and Sales to buy uniforms, too..... but it's nice to have it squared away instead of having to run errands like crazy...

I think the closest bases to me are Ft. Belvoir and Ft. AP hill. My recruiter told me that after commissioning that the Cpt. at the recruiting station would help me get squared away with AKO, ID cards and my recruiter would help with the uniforms.

On a side note I heard that the Army is changing the uniform from UCP starting in October,

Army seeks 3 variants of camo to replace UCP - Army News | News from Afghanistan & Iraq - Army Times

has anybody heard anything about this?
