My kids in melbourne??

Male nurse student here in the States,

My kids live in Melbourne with their mom. I chose a career in nursing so as I could have the financial and travel means to be in their lives. what are my prospects of working as a nurse in Melbourne? I do have permanent residence there, or so I did a few years ago when I lived there. Any advise would be appreciated.

To keep permanent residency you need requirements, such as spending a certain amount of time in Australia within 5 years of receiving your visa, otherwise you may now no longer have permanent residency visa.

If not,

You will need work permit - under 30? I am not an immigration agent so better check your rights to work here first Department of Immigration & Citizenship

otherwise you will need a sponsor for a work permit - full time job, employer unable to find a local to fill position. Difficult in Melbourne at this time, unless you have lots of theatre/ICU work under your belt as an RN.

To find work as a new graduate is now difficult for locals. Good luck

it should be easy for you coz they are already here....just as long as you have australian license to practice as a nurse, it's not aproblem getting a job in melbourne especially if you are a resident.....

the challenge is for those who rquire employer sponsorship coz not all hospitals sponsor but for someone who already has the work rights.....easy as 123

Thanks cheribwyn and chebia! I'm sure my perm res status has expired. First thing first; get through school, get my RN degree. I think more feasible would be moving to Hawaii, a bit closer, and I could take advantage of military flight which flies weekly to Richmond, Aussie air force base near Sydney.

Hello, i don't clearly understand your meaning, but it is better to find a job near your families.Since you are man, and good for your care to them.
