Looking for volunteer activities

I am a nursing student who will graduate later this year however I should be taking boards this month. In the interim, I would like to volunteer/be paid, one day a week,to do some community or public heath outreach programs. I am envisioning vaccination clinics or something else that would allow me to make a difference right away and keep me in the clinical setting.

I am also considering medical trips down to Mexico, but am concerned about safety so might be more inclined to stay in the Southern California area and help out closer to home.

I was hoping for some suggestions or guidance from some of the experienced nurses on the site.

Red Cross. You can do all kinds of things, including disaster response. I've worked medical at marathons, too.

Here's a couple of ideas:

I'm doing a six week (one hour per week) introduction to anatomy and physiology course for a group of gifted elementary students at a local private school. It was a program I developed and offered to the school.

Eventually, I'd like to get involved in the community doing outreach projects for health promotion.
