When a person takes the Nclex, how can that person get a license for different states?

You have to contact the state BON where you are wanting a licenses they will send you the paperwork and information you need, you can prob. google it and get a website if you want.

I've often wondered the same thing...so you wouldn't have to take the NCLEX again, right?

right, as long as you passed it the first time and hold a current license in the state you currently practice in. There will be a license fee and you will have to fill out a truckload of paperwork. There is a name for this and for the life of me I can't think of it, it is right on the tip of my tongue. I will think of it later, when I am trying to go to sleep. lol

If you passed the NCLEX in one state you do not have to take it again. Go to the new state, request a license (fill out the forms they will privide - most inline now too) and send them in. The new state will contact your old state and then proccess your license.

I've been licensed in many states. It's essentially the same in each one.

Thanks to all for answering my question! :)

Hey guys...Just wanted to mention that several states now participate in the mutual compact agreement. I received my license in my state...but paid a little extra for the license so my license is accepted in all participating states. In other words, I don't need to get a license in each of these states. Check this out with your SBON...you should also find a list of participating states online somewhere...
