Just found out I was selected for FY 2012! I have a duty station? Do they try to get you where you.want to go or do you basically have no input?? My husband is active duty as well so we are just trying to figure it all out! Thanks for your help!

Which service branch? Also, are you prior service? Any course guarantees like ER or ICU?

Melisa, congrats! If it's Army you're talking about (I'm just assuming it is, not sure anyone else calls us "direct commission"), you will probably get some input on where you want to go. The Army does try to keep dual active service members together, but it's not always possible. (For example, a friend of mine is at Ft. Benning and her husband is two hours away at Ft. Rucker.)

I am excited for you! I remember how excited I was last year. A couple of months after I was selected, I spoke with one of the branch managers at HRC and she offered me four different duty stations from which to choose. I am a 66HM5 (ER nurse), so there were specific locations where M5s were needed. Do you have a specialty or identifier? Course guarantee? That will also make a difference.

I know the first place you'll go, though -- Ft. Sam Houston, TX, for Basic Officer Leader Course (BOLC), formerly known as OBLC or OBC. I hope you have as much fun there as I did!!

Thanks for your help! Yes it is Army, I don't have any identifiers and i'm not prior service. I have been a nurse for 5 years in various areas ER, OB, PACU but never long enough to get the identifier. I am so stressed that we wont be stationed together! We have 4 kids and I can't imagine...having said that i'm extremely excited and can't wait to get more details!

I think if you're coming in as a 66H, they'll have more latitude as to where they can send you; that should make it easier to co-locate you with your husband. :)

Just to echo what Lunah said, don't stress right now, be incredibly happy that you got in!! There were only 15 spots for the whole country and as a non-prior service 66H with no specialty identifiers, it's awesome that you got in!! You will have some say in where you go, especially since your husband is active duty. What is his MOS/AOC?

Thanks! I was originally told there were 40 slots...I still can't believe I got in!! I worked at Tripler for 3 years as a civilian contractor but that's as close I've come to any Military experience. My husband is infantry 11b, were currently stationed at Fort Jackson and has about 6 months left on the trail as a drill sergeant. I've already planned it out that if I go to BOLC in March then his trail time would be up when I graduated! Lol as if anything with the army ever goes as planned! But one can hope!!!

40 would be better! I think it's so interesting how information can differ from one recruiter to another. Where did you work at Tripler? I was a head nurse there when I was active duty.

Congratulations! We live on Ft Jackson! I hear how hard the trail can be! Please keep me posted on your experiance because I am going to be in a similar situation in a few years. My hubby is active duty army - an instructor I am studying towards my BSN in the hope to do Direct Commission into A/F - I think I will be too old for Army.
