Student Nurse Extern MICU

Hey all,

I was looking online for recommendations and stumbled upon others who are looking for answers to the same question. I have an externship in a MICU at well known hospital in Chicago. I am just looking for book recommendations that are current, and relatively inexpensive (IE under $40). Due to the limited amount of time, I was considering one of the "ICU/CCU...Made Incredibly Easy," type books (is it worth the money?). I also have been looking at the "...Incredibly Fast" pocket reference books. Any recommendations of the newer ICU/ER over the slightly older ICU/CCU book?

Any suggestions in general (books and otherwise) are greatly appreciated. My clinicals have been on ortho-neuro and med-surg floors at small central Illinois hospitals, so I am anxious/excited for this change in pace. From what has already been answered in these forums, I have checked out icufacts.org.

Thank you for your time!

Fast Fact for Critcal Care by Kathy White is a very good reference.

I externed in MICU last summer, and read Critical Care Made Incredibly Easy and icufaqs to get ready.

Thanks for the great advice on study tools

I would recommend "The Little ICU book" by Marino. It pretty much covers everything you need to know when caring for the typcial "MICU" patient. A lot of the residents at my hospital carry it around and it is a good reference when learning how to manage a patient.
