Anyone have a "Rooming In" policy for adoptive parents? Had adoptive parents who lived several hundred miles from the hospital and wanted to room in before making the drive home...the birth mo was in agreement. The adoptive parents were allowed to room in...but there is no policy for this, since this type of request has only happened a few times. So I guess it's time to get started before we need to use it again...Thanx for any and all responses.

Our adoptive parents can room in, either in with the birth mom if appropriate, or in our parent rooms (we have 2 parent rooms for the NICU that we use). We have a lot of foster parents who use the parent rooms before taking a sick baby home.

You should have a very liberal and broad "Rooming In" policy that allows the birth mom to have one or two people of her choosing stay with her overnight. It could be a husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, mother, adoptive parent, or whomever. You can restrict it to no children under 16 years. You can also reserve the right to ask that an individual leave if they are being disruptive in anyway or interfering with the care and support of the mother and child.

We don't have a "policy" per se...

We let the adoptive parents stay in an empty room if one is available or we have a doctor's lounge they can stay in.

It isn't really a lounge but a room with 2 LazyBoy chairs, a TV, and a pc. It kinda pisses the doc's off when they walk in there and see a family in "their" chair, but OH WELL!
