I have worked for several years as an LPN in New Hampshire.

I have recently moved to New York and have sent in my application for a NY state LPN license.

The people at the Board of Nursing are pretty rude and not helpful in any way.

I was wondering if anyone has applied for a New York State nursing license after being previously licensed in another state, and how long of a wait it was until the paperwork was processed and the license was granted?

Also, are you sent any verification of licensure, or do you need to obsessively check the licensing website and fill in your name hoping to see yourself appear?

I was actually in the same position you are in now. I went to school in NY, but after graduation went to work in NH. I took my NCLEX on thursday and had my results at 7am the next morning. After a year working in NH, I decided to come back to NY. It took about 3 months to transfer my license over. NY has online verification and you will recieve a paper license in the mail, unlike in NH. I suggest calling every now and then to make sure you paperwork is in order. NY is a big state, and although I was born and raised her, the BON can be a bit of a hassle. Good Luck in NY!

New Yorkers rude?, I'm shocked, ... shocked.

After many years of having my NY license inactive I contacted them to reactivate my license and I have to say they were most helpful to me I received the paperwork very quickly! The whole process took me maybe two weeks! So I am shocked to see that you are having a problem. After the process I have told many people how helpful the NY BON was for me.

I did my license for NY through endorsement as well. I want to say it took 3-4 weeks to get my license processed. You can see online when it does go through, but you will also recieve one in the mail. Although that can be like another 2 weeks or so before you recieve it. I never spoke with anyone I don't think. I just printed it all out, mailed it in, then waited to recieve it.

I called the BON today and got a really rude lady... again. She said it can take up to 6 weeks and I'll just have to wait. I should have mentioned that I went to nursing school in new york, only applied for a NH license when I took the NCLEX. Maybe then there's a way I can get a temporary license, like a GPN. Does anyone know if there is a time limit on how long after graduation you can get a temporary license? I graduated in NY in 2007. I really need to get working again... money is getting pretty tight.

You have to bother them. Just call everyday until they fill out your application. If that doesn't work, figure out who the "rude lady's" boss and contact her.

It won't matter that you went to school in NY. It's still an endorsement off your original licensure. NY doesn't do temporary licenses anyway that I know of. Good luck, hopefully you get it soon!
