So for an assignment (CE) we have to identify cardiac rhythms and nursing interventions. If a pt has an asymptomatic Second degree AV block Type I what kind of interventions am I going to provide? Other than document and continue to monitor, educate the patient regarding possible s/s. Any ideas?

Ooh, Wenckebach! It's my favorite rhythm, but I have only seen it a few times in my career as a MedSurg nurse.

It's fairly benign. And if there are no symptoms, I would just keep an eye out for syncope and whatnot.

I'll take that over Type II any day!

If they are asymptomatic, not much, obtain v/s compare w/ baseline, notify md if new onset

My ACLS review says..

treat the underlying cause (CAD, Dig tox, use of beta-adrenergic blockers, calcium channel blockers, quinidine, or procainamide as potential causes...) so, do a med review.

watch for hypotension or sycope

if symptomatic bradycardia - transcutaneous pacer

Fairly benign... it's the type II and 3rd degree you gotta look out for.
