Here's my delimma....

1) I can apply to my current college and pray I get in. (HUGE waiting list and many applicants....if I don't get in this year, I have to reapeat the entire process next year...)

2) Apply to the other college here in town and have to retake almost all of my pre-reqs because they won't transfer.

3) Try Excelsior which I don't know too much about, but I can work at getting my RN starting now.

I really want my RN, and don't want to go through the wait bull every time I turn around. I already have all my pre-reqs done, just waiting to be accepted somewhere!

I value all of your opinions, so I am coming to you for help.

What would you guys do?

I know nothing about Excelsior, but I would probably research that first and see if that is indeed an option. If not, I would go for the current college and just wait it out. There is no way I would be taking all my pre-reqs over again just to attend another school. Just not worth it. Too much time and money.

I'm an RN at University of Phoenix online (ADN to BSN/MSN) program. Several of the students in my classes have done the Excelsior route and loved it. Good luck. I would thoroughly research my options before comitting.

Curious here: why won't the pre-reqs transfer?

I'm an Excelsior grad, and the program is really good. It's not easy, and it's not for everyone, but the flexibility is great. (I also suspect it's a LOT easier than when I graduated (1980!) because there is so much more student assistance -- online and off-line --than there was then).

invaluable resource. tells you WHERE schools are, their web addy's and whether or not they have online/distance learning options, plus so much more. It's how I found my online program and it's a lot cheaper than Excelsior and many other "Big Boys" are......

I don't know "why" they don't transfer...I just know they don't. I find it rather odd myself, but such is life! :)

With all your pre-reqs done, you could check with them to see what they will accept and probably just have the nursing exams and of course the almighty clinical to take.

If you are able to study independantly then this might be the way to go to save time and $$.

I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have......

PS whatever you do dont sign with a "third party" publisher who will give you what you can get on your own

I would wait at your current college (depending if you have ALL of your pre-reqs)

Some of the people at the top of the wait list drop, which moves you up in line. I've "heard" 30 people drop so that makes the next 30 move up as far as my school is concerned.

Many have decided on other careers, have kids can't do it, or for financial reasons.

so depending on what pre-reqs you still need/ and have done

I would go for where you are,

like do you have your A&P, micro, chem? stuff like that
