bladder scanner

I work in a inpatient peds rehab unit and want to convince the manager that we could use a bladder scanner. Does anyone use this item in there hospital? To develop a policy there needs to be parameters. I approached one of our doctors who shot my idea down. I am persistent and think it would be a useful tool. Any help please.

Yes we do - and we use it all the time. I do not know about it's accuracy with Peds though. I did find one article on them but I can't rememer the referrence. A good search of Medline should unearth it again though. I do know that everywhere they have been used they are loved as they prevent in out catheters.

We use one too, LOVE it!! Doctor usaully put orders in for parameters and then we report if needed. Much better than cathing all the time!!!

ditto:)

We use it frequently on our peds rehab pt's too. I think the accuracy is operator dependant. For the life of me, I just can't seem to get a scan within 20cc of a cathed amount. I dunno, I'm just "bladder scanner challenged"..lol. I actually have better luck with the smaller patients, so I don't think that's a problem. The rep from the manufacturer came out and gave us an inservice..was great and that may be a thought for you. Contact a sales rep and ask them to come "sell" one to your boss.

Thanks everyone who has replied. I will get back and let you know of my success at Children's Hosp in Detroit. I plan to visit U of M tomorrow for more info.
