Can anyone tell me what new RN grads make in hospitals? Do BSN'S get more than ADN'S? I love the OR. Do they train new grads in the OR?

I just read another post yesterday where a member said that Frederick Memorial Hospital was paying new grads $24.75 plus a variety of shift differentials and bonus if you stay for 2 years.

So far as OR new grad recruitment goes, you will have to shop around. Not all hospitals take on new grads to the OR so you will need to do some footwork on that.

$24.75 sounds low! Possibly because its Frederick? WHC is paying new grads $26-something an hour. I just read that on the DC board. Hopkins pays $24.45 but it's an hour commute for me (I'm in Gaithersburg).

For $1.25 an hour extra, I don't think I would want to be bothered with getting to WHC (I too live in the MC suburbs). I honestly thought WHC paid a lot higher than that. Although Frederick sounds low, it doesn't actually sound too bad when you compare it with WHC (where they probably take the difference in union dues, so you wouldn't be any better off).

Ohhh union dues...I didn't even think to take that into consideration. Which hospitals around here are union?? I'm even considering commuting to Hopkins just because their new grad program seems really fabulous!

WHC is the only one that I know if South of B'more.

I know Montgomery General, Shady Grove Adventist, Washington Adventist, Suburban, and Frederick Memorial are all not union. Other than that, I dunno.

Also consider the monthly cost for parking. At UM hospital, they will deduct it pre-tax, but it is still less money. At Frederick, Shady Grove, Suburban parking is free.

WHC pays $27 and change. I think it's either .60 or .70 cents for new grads. Dues are $45 a month and the differentials aren't too shabby.

It still may not make sense to travel to the location depending on where you're at, but it definitely the highest salary in the region.

Hanover Hospital in PA (just over the line) pays $24.00 with a $2.40 diff for shifts 3p-7a or paying if you work 2 hours into that time frame. They riemburse for tuition $4000/yr, $10,000 loan forgivness (1 yr commitment/ 2500). No new grads in the OR.

Anyone know if WHC is magnet?

The only two Magnet hospitals in MD are JHH and Mt. Sinai.. JHH pays 25.74 and 3.00 diff for nights rotating shifts and they do hire new grads in to the OR
