at one of the local hospitals, they held an information night for people interested in nursing. My niece and I attended last night and I am so glad I did. It was nice to hear what the nurses had to say about their careers and also I was most interested in one nurse who is a 2nd career nurse after spending 20 years in Engineering. Since I will be a 2nd career Nurse, I enjoyed listening to her.

I also was able to sign up to shadow a nurse at the hospital. I can't wait to do that. I have wanted to do that for some time now but most of the hospitals don't allow it.

I will have another opportunity to sign up for shadowing at another hospital on March 11 when my college is hosting a Career Pathways and reps from other hospitals will be there.

Glad you had a good time. Our student nurses association arranges for Nurses from various specialties to come in and speak. One of them really made such an impact on me that I was in tears!!!

Debi, that sounds great! I will be a 2nd career nurse, too. I've been out of college for 6 years.

I had a great experience volunteering at a hospital in their SICU. The nurses kind of took me under their wing and let me shadow them while they explained what they were doing. It was really awesome!

This sounds like fun. I need to check with my local hospital to see if I can "shadow" someone. I think that would really be a good experience while I'm doing my pre-req's.

Debi that is what my son did. He went to the information session, shadowed and took a job as an extern working at the hospital. he works full time and the hospital is starting to pay for his school which really helps us out as we have two other kids in college. He switched his major from computers to nursing.
