I am an RN who lives in Worcester Ma and I am having my first baby in a few weeks. I am trying to find recommendations for a pediatrician who is (1) excellent with infants & children and (2) sensitive to the knowledge of other medical professionals (my knowledge as a nurse). Any recommendations would be most appreciated!

I am from the south shore. In braintree there is an awesome doc. She was my pedeatrition. My mom used to be a nurse and she knew that my mom knew what she was talking about and treated her with respect.

You may want to consider interviewing pediatricians. Interviews can tell you a lot about the doc such as bedside manner, how they treat your concerns, how they treat you knowing you are a nurse, etc.

They can be really helpful.

Or MAYBE consider a pediatric nurse practitioner (ahem!)? We definately are sensitive to the knowledge of other nurses/ health proffs. I am anyways! :)

I would have to agree, you need to consider a pediatric nurse practitioner. My family doctor has a NP that works for his office and if I have a choice I will go to see her rather than the MD. Any of the NPs that I have gone to take the time to get the whole picture by taking the time to do a good assessment and by listening to what the patient (or parent) is saying. Sometimes, the MD seems way too rushed and it makes me wonder if he assessed the whole picture.

Ya in my peds office that was an issue, with the other docs. I had a HORENDICE yeast infection once. They treated it twice and said if it did not go away I would need to see a gyn. We had them talk to my doc her responce...."look at the meds she is on, of course she has a yeast infection". I had just had surgery and was on HEAVY DUTY dose of STRONG antibiotics. She said wait for me to be done with those, and treat again and it would go away. Guess who was right.

Just out of curiosity, when you were started on these heavy duty abx, did anyone take the time to teach you about things you could do to help prevent the yeast infection? That would have been important too.

Also, without knowing the the hx of the massive abx use, my first r/o would have been diabetes, not a gyno consult.

Nope I was started in the hospital, due to the fact that this was after a surgery. Felt a little sore in that area, however assumed it was due to peeing alot since I was on lots of fluids, thus ignored it. They did not tell me ANYTHING I did not even know it was something that might happen. I kept going in to my peds office, went I think it was 3 times before this story came into play. And they did know the antibiotic use, they asked any meds and I told them, they just were dumb each and every time.
