For Ob/gyn nurses

Hi,

First of all, I have PCOS. I am wondering if there is a correla-

tion between this disease and my hair breaking off at the ends,

as it is very brittle. It is half as long as it used to be and con't to

break. I know PCOS can cause hair thinning and male pattern baldness?

Any info is much appreciated. I am not sure what

to do about this. I have been prescribed a diuretic and gluco-

phage. However, this does not explain the hair brittleness.

Could there be a vitamin dificiency?

Thanks all!

Hind sight is always 50/50 .:p

A broken clock is right at least twice a day. :kiss

Thanks for the Links, very informative.

Hope they help and I hope the answers help you in your distress. Good luck!

Another very good website, which is Very similar to this board is http://www.soulcysters.com .

I, too have PCOS but I haven't had any problems with my hair being brittle. I have hair where I don't want it like my upper lip and lower abdomen.

Good luck!

Kelly:)

I have it too... I also have hair where I don't want it.. enough that I have to "NAIR" my chin and belly every so often! I haven't noticed the brittle hair thing either. Just other things like it's very difficult to lose weight, and I couldn't get preggo when I was trying a few yrs ago. The plus side is that I dont have cycles often at all! Only once or twice a year!

You sound a lot like me, except, I haven't gotten pregnant yet. It's one of my New Years Resolutions!

Nurse-Lou, Good luck!!! I tried the provera/clomid thing for 4 months, then stopped because I was tired of having to go for all the tests and pelvics every month! I know of several women who did the clomid unsuccessfully and then once they stopped, they conceived within a few months!

Hi,

thanks for the replies. Fortunately I had all of my children before

I started having all of these symptoms. I have read on some

websites that some women started ovulating after they cut

down on their carbohydrates. I believe this has something to do

with the islets of Langerhans secreting an abundance of insulin

to move the carbs out of the body. With PCOS, the body tends to over produce insulin and the cells become resistant to insulin; therefore alot of the sugars are stored and are turned into fat. Sadly to say I have a hard time losing weight too and I gain it very easily. Anyway about the hair. I am at a lost. I am going to

have to wear a wig if it gets any thinner or shorter. :o
