Im a rnc ( registered nurse child) and my partners a pe teacher and we thinking of coming to usa to work particular around the boston/ maine area.

now i not sure on where i would stand my diploma in nursing is in child branch , and i thought you had to be general trained to come work in the usa is this correct, if so would i need to get my general nurse training before coming to usa or could it be done out in usa or would the accept me ?

any help or info would be much appreciated

Couple of things

Check out the international forum especially sticky/thread called Primer to working in the US and also the UK forum. Both forums can by found by clicking on the Local tab near the top of the page.

Your training may be OK but the only way to find out is to get CES full report with CGFNS http://www.cgfns.org. It all depends on what you did in your foundation year and whether you did any hours both theory and practical in all areas Mental health, general adult, midwifery as well as paeds. If you are short you may be able to attend school of nursing in the US as guest student to make hours up but will need to sort this out yourself and be able to fund self whilst doing it.

If interested a few of us UK nurses both in the UK and US meet up on a tuesday 8pm ish for a couple of hours for a chat but you do need certain amount of posts and be a member for longer than 2 days or get premium membership.

Would also recommend reading about retrogression as currently no visas and also look at a process of over 18 months and learning lots of patience
