I wonder if you all have been getting strange situations this past weekend as we have.

From Friday to Sunday we had 2 Mag pts at once, a DIC in which the baby was lost (29 weeker) and mother needed multiple units of blood, a bag and mask resus. on a mec baby, a near PP hemorrhage, and a definite PP hemorrhage who also needed multiple units of blood. I have been a L&D nurse for a little over a year now and at this facility the whole time, and in that time I have seen 2 bag and masks and maybe a Mag pt once every few weeks or so. I had not seen hemorrhage or DIC yet. To have this all in one weekend is really weird in my mind.

Think maybe it was this last full moon? We are already supposedly having the post 9-11 rush as well. Are you all getting any situations that are unusual for your facility or shift lately? I love to read the different stories from everyone. :)

no usually weather changes, esp precipitous drops in barometric pressure are what I see bringing in "strange" things.....the full moon has nothing much to do w/it where i work.

We got our 3 IUFD's last week. That's about the only thing that's been dropped on our doorstep w/this weather/moon. Other than that, business as usual.

We have had 4 sets of twins (one of which had 1 twin IUFD), 2 IUFD (waiting for our third. Overall this has just been an outrageously buzy several days.

I had been off the last 3 days, so I missed any full moon business. I tend to agree with Debbie above. We usually get busy and seem to see a lot more pre-termers when we get a big shift in the weather. I always say that in the Winter, the babies want to come out to see the snow. If there is snow forecast, we start getting a lot of labor checks. Even my own child decided she needed to rupture my membranes in the middle of a snowstorm. That was not a fun ride to the hospital, but at least I hadn't started contracting yet and my husband did not feel like he had to hurry.

And is she still a bit rebellious to this day? :wink2:

Rebellious is way too mild of a word. She will be 12 this Winter, but she thinks she is going on 32. And she still loves snow, too...
