Hey everyone! Today went way better than I thought. I was almost positive that I was going to get fired when I went into the rehab today or at least written up for last week's chaos of ineptitude that I felt I was in, but I didn't even get talked to in the office. My DON seemed like an entirely different person (if I didn't know better I'd strongly suspect DID or Bipolar Disorder).

However, they are now cutting off any extra time past the end of your shift. Today I only had 7 patients (3 nurses) and I still didn't finish until 7pm (30 extra minutes). Tomorrow I'll have 11 or 12 patients so I don't see anyway that I can finish by 630pm without endorsing anything to night shift (also a no no).

Another positive is that I got a concrete offer from the hospital and will be moving to Med-Surg starting on March 20th. So I'll be giving notice that my last day will be March 8th (I'm just hoping they will pay me the 40 hours of PTO I have saved up) and then I'll be going on my vacation to unwind before I start my new job. Not only is it a smaller nurse-patient ratio (by half) but even my measly 6 months experience got me a pay increase from $27 to $30.50 per hour :) Just thought I'd leave a much more positive update than how my last topic ended last week.

Time to get another round of immunizations that I'm sure I don't need at this point between the military and nursing school. Does it do harm to get more than one flu shot in a season? I don't have any documentation that I already got it since a coworker gave me the shot but I'd rather not have it again since I've been immunized and had a weekend long bout of stomach flu over New Year's. I don't mind the TB test since the wheal disappears less than an hour after they poke me.

Ask your employer if they can provide documentation of your flu shot. If unable to obtain, don't get a 2nd flu shot. I'd ask the employee health nurse at the hospital what they think.
