Thinking of applying for a per diem (as needed) Urgent Care job. I have worked in the inpatient hospital setting as an RN for the past 2 years.

Wondering if there is any insight on what the pay would be for an Urgent Care/clinic RN position in WISCONSIN, but any insight is welcome!

In addition, what is the typical workflow?

I would imagine this answer will be different all over the board. In my area (not Wisconsin), acute care nurses make about 40% more than urgent care nurses. The salary is the same if the nurse comes from a major organization like Kaiser Permanente where seniority and salary follow the nurse wherever they go. Independent urgent care clinics are also 40-50% below the acute care wage. I am speaking from my knowledge of more experienced nurses so maybe the wage difference isn't as high for fewer years experience.

In my area, definitely not WI, urgent care RNs make 50+hr PRN. However, to be an Urgent Care RN you have to have at least year of ED experience. Critical care is not the same as ED. Many practitioners want to see that experience because you are able to triage patients. You have the knowledge and skill to say what can be treated in the urgent care center and what needs to be sent to an ED. In urgent care centers, it is literally just you and a practitioner. I would recommend to branch out first into your hospital's ED. Crosstrain. See if you like it and go from there. ED was a completely different experience from floor care.

Wisconsin wages vary widely by region. On my area urgent care RNs are paid like clinic nurses, slightly less than acute care but still have weekend and holiday differentials.
