I am applying, well trying, to apply to jobs after a 2 year hiatus because I had a baby. I am now realizing there is such an influx of nurses that it is so difficult to get a job. I am an LVN & it is not easy to find a job where I live. I have applied everywhere I could think of, minus the nursing homes because I would rather get dental work done than work there.

I guess I am limiting myself because I won't work at nursing homes but I am applying literally *everywhere* else. It wasn't like this 6 years ago when I became a nurse, but now...woah. I also didn't feel like there was such a huge influx of nurses. I hope I find a job soon because I need one!

Some of your diffilculty may be related to hospitals pursuing magnet status and trying to increase the # of BSN RNs vs LPNs and LVNs. The hospital I most recently worked at might have 50 RN jobs listed at any given time and only 1-2 LPN jobs.

The hospitals in my area let all the LPNs go for BSNs, clinics using MAs. LPNs mostly working ltc where I am. Good luck with your job search, but realize with 2years off, some may view you as needing a skills and knowledge update. Perhaps more school?

The hospitals in my area aren't going for magnet status, they definitely are still hiring ADN grads. But they still prefer RNs over LVNs. There is one hospital that hires RNs only & another that hires LVNs occasionally.

LVNs in my area work everywhere (corrections, HH, doctor's office, etc).

I know it will be tough getting a job after taking 2 years off. I have gotten a job doing PDN but I am searching for a solid, reliable full time job. Which itself is turning out to be a job!

I want to go back to school but with my son & my husband's job, I don't have the time. I'll be lucky to land a job that work around my son's daycare schedule!
