Pediatric NP or midwife?

I am looking into NP programs and I see acute care and FNP mostly. How would you go about specializing in pediatrics or even midwifery? I'm not sure which route I want to take yet, but I'm not finding these options in schools here in Georgia.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Nowhere in Georgia? I know there's Frontier School of Nursing (in Kentucky I believe) that has midwifery and possibly pediatric I honestly have never seen an NP program for pediatrics and I only know of a handful with midwifery

GRU (Augusta University now) has a Ped NP program and Emory has a CNM program.

University of South Alabama has both an acute and primary pediatric track, but no CNM.

Anyone who is thinking about being a CNM should strongly consider shadowing a practicing CNM, or even getting experience as a doula, to give you a better sense of what the job entails. Being on call is HARD, and it's not for everyone. I work in a clinic now (Planned Parenthood, best job ever, will probably never go back to doing births), but I remember being 19 hours into a 24 hour shift, having 3 new admits, and getting that sinking feeling that comes with knowing you will *not* be leaving when your replacement comes. It's a wonderful, fullfilling, exciting and incredible job. But it's hard.

Were you a doula before becoming a CNM?

Frontier Nursing University (Hyden, KY) does have CNM, however they do not offer PNP. They also offer FNP and WHNP. :)

I was a CPM before I decided to go back to school to become a CNM. I worked as a doula and childbirth educator during CPM school, but had ZERO health care experience of any kind when I started CPM school. Thankfully, it worked out well for me but I would never recommend investing the time and money into midwifery education without dipping your toes into the field first. And if I could go back, I would have just gone straight for my CNM. But 19 year old me was so deep in the woo that I was *POSITIVE* I never wanted to be a part of the evil mainstream medical system. Ah, the misguided ideology of youth.

Do as I say, not as I do! Lol.
