I unfortunately just found out that my beloved former instructor and mentor is in poor health. She was the reason I became a nurse and an educator. She challenged me and was caring, and made such a difference in my career with her wise advice. I have been so lucky to have her in my life.
We often hear the negatives, but what teacher has made the biggest difference in your life? Could be clinical, lecture, or a teacher outside of nursing. Which teacher contributed the most to your success?

i have only been in ns for one semester and there are quite a few instuctors that are so wonderful. they are caring, they love to teach, and have treated all of us with respect. there was an instructor in particular that challenged me on my very first demonstration and asked why, what is this called, rather than just have me demonstrate a skill. it ranged a bell in my head, that said, i need not to only know how to do a particular skill, but know the ins and outs of why, where, and how. she made me want to better myself. this past spring 2010 semester was her last one, as she is now retired.

I had some wonderful instructors. I love people who are optimistic, I admire people who give hope to student. I like happy, polite, helpful instructors. Sometimes good people make a hard class seem easy. Miserable people make other miserable. Most importantly, I like instructors that can explain things the way a student can understand. I had instructors say, it is like this because the "book says so" and no other explanation.
