I am taking the TEAS V this coming Monday. The University that I am taking it at allows calculator use on the math section. I will not be attending this university, so I will be transferring my score to my college of choice. However, when my college of choice administers the TEAS exam they do not allow calculator use. I am wondering why one school would and another school (close by) would not? It just seems counter productive to ban the use of a calculator when one can simply transfer their score.

Hmmm....the official TEAS site (ATI) says that calculators are not allowed. When I took it I had a choice of two schools which offered the exam. One allowed calculators, one didn't. The questions are not challenging enough to make a calculator necessary, but then again who is going to know whether you use one or not. It is a personal decision I suppose, but I personally don't place a lot of faith in any school that bends such a simple rule.

Yea, I thought ATI said "No calculators". Maybe because it's important for nurses to know how to do simple math on their own? Not trying to sound rude
That isn't rude at all. It is TRUE. Everyone should be able to do basic math. The math on the TEAS was simple 3 and 4 digit addition and subtraction. Of course there was some algebra in there, but nothing crazy. I am not a math person AT ALL and I did just fine.
I can do the math just fine without a calculator. However, since my future is riding on this test, I am going to use every tool available to get the highest score possible. I do not feel the need to spend time on simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division questions when I can use the extra time that I gained from use of a calculator to figure out the harder ones. I realise that nurses need to be able to do simple math, and I can do that, but try to see things from my point of view.
