Our English friends - sorry for the slang :).
Written up means you get a "black mark" against your record, so to speak. You are reported for doing something bad (or perceived by some deranged mind to be bad, as the case may be.)
In most places, there is a human resources policy that governs how write ups are handled, the severity of various offenses, etc.
