I'm sorry I'm not a nurse yet and dont have a story for you but just in case no one gives you any good stories I think in the Nurse Articles that would be some good stories....

just ... think of life, how complex it is, think how painfull you can feel, how unease it is to know that something is wrong with you (that is why you are in the hospital)..

and the nurse's job is to make sure that you get cured, healed, feeling better, that your pain and suffering is controled, and everything is ok with you, and all of this is done with exceptional care, so you can go back home to the one you love....

I can't think of any other way to describe nurses other then

"earth angels"

My son died from cancer at the age of 13.

The nurses made all the difference in the world to my being able to have peace about his death. They took wonderful care of my son, of me, our family. I always knew he had the utmost quality of care, but also that they would talk to me, give it to me straight in a way that the doctors seemed sometimes to shy away from. They taught me about his illness, his treatments, his complications. They gave me the options on how to ensure he had a "good" death rather than a bad one. They wept with me when he died, and now...they live in my heart forever and have made me want to be one of them.

This is MY reason for it all being worth it. The chance to impact another poor family the way mine was.

just to perhaps make a difference?

i think that as a nurse you will experience the "best of times" as well as the "worst of times" patients can vary from "happy & healthy" to "sick & dying" they can have a huge family or they can be all alone, or they can fit anywhere in between the extremes. but the one constant common ground that they all will share is the "nurse" that they depend on during their time of need. they are litterally putting their life in your hands. their nurse will be the one person that they put all of their trust in. their nurse will be the one person that can make a difference.:redpinkhe
