Working and School is it doable?

Published

Hello so I want to take the CNA preparation

course when when I enroll in classes at

Ivy Tech.

What I would like to know is if I attend

clases 2 or 3 days a week how can I fit

in my CNA training?

Also I do want to work full time along

With going to school, however once I am

in the program I would probably need

to cut back on my hours right?

My goal is to work in LTC for at least 6

months after I obtain my CNA certification

then I wish to apply to the hospital

once I am in the nursing program or have

completed my first semester?

I would like a job as a ER Tech or

Nurse Tech while in school.

Specializes in Psychiatric and emergency nursing.

It is doable, just difficult for some. I am a BSN trained nurse, and worked full-time during my AS, BSN, and the master's classes I took. You'll be tired, rarely see your family or the outside world, and often ask yourself why you decided to be the poster child for self-abuse, but I guarantee you it can be done.

Specializes in NICU.

It can be done. I worked full time during summer/winter breaks and worked weekends&Holidays during session.

I wouldn't advise FT during session though.

Thank you I admire people that can do

all that. Juggle nursing school, work and

family. I know I love nursing, it has been

quite a journey the last few years as

I have learned, your past affects you

in every way. I wish I started my journey

to enter into nursing school years ago like

right after I earned my GED. I am 33 so

I have a ways yet but it is challenging

as I find myself trying to compete for jobs

that require either CNA certifications past

patient care experience or have completed the first or even

or second semester of nursing school.

I think nurses are just amazing at what

they do. Funny whenever I go to the hospital

which is hardly ever I always ask the nurses

questions. I dont get to personal just basic

questions that I am interested in knowing.

I am curious Une Infirmiere how were

you able to squeeze in time for studying

along with working alot? Also do you

have a family that requires your attention

along with school and work?

I would like to know how you studied?

Were you able to study on break at work

or when you werent so busy?

Specializes in NICU.

During session I worked 7p-7a every Friday and Saturdays as a float. I also worked every holiday. I usually get a lot of downtime to study between 1a-5a depending on the type of unit I'm working. I always ask the charge nurse to be the sitter if possible so that I can do my readings or practice questions all night.

During summer/spring break, I worked up to 60hr/week to prepare for the next semester. I would pick up all the shift overtime I can get.

I used to study anytime/anywhere I can. I was sleep deprived most of the time. I would get so tired sometimes that will sleep 12-14hrs straight on Sunday...I never work or study on Sundays btw to keep my sanity. I also eat very healthy take multivitamins and squeeze in time for the gym...but still it was insane. I don't know how I did it. I had no choice so I just did it I guess.

Yeah I am looking for that same motivation

work many hours plus have my study time.

I dont have a family now so I guess it less

challenging, though once I get into the program

I know I will never eat or sleep. I barely

ate or slept during my 2 years getting pre and co

reqs done for the BSN. I was usually

eating energy or nutrition bars or taking

nutrition drinks to school just no time to eat.

NS is the main focus, I am getting my CNA

next month plus taking my last pre reqs.

In January I am taking my final 2 science

courses and taking the TEASV.

I am excited yet nervous because I am

finally about to apply after all the hard work

of pre reqs and co reqs.

All I will have are nursing classes!
