Working Part-Time While in School

Hi Everyone,

I will be starting nursing school in September but am already thinking about what I will be doing for part-time work. I currently work full-time at a hospital but will be leaving as they cannot offer me part-time work. I am not an RPN or PSW, so the idea of working as one is not an option. What are some jobs I can apply to that will still be relevant to my nursing career? Any ideas would be appreciated!!!

Sometimes after you have completed your first semester of school they will hire you as a PSW, especially LTC

I agree. After my first semester I was hired as a PSW.

Thanks! I wasn't aware I could be hired as a PSW despite being nursing student.

Nursing resource pools in my area hire a ton of students to work as sitters while in nursing school

I worked as a psw after my first year, so try to go for that! if not then get the best out of your clinical and pregrad hours, i had people work at macdonalds for the whore time during school but were phenominal during clinical and pegrad then they god jobs right out of school! dont stress too much about what your resume is going to look like in 2/4 years , concintarte on getting though it first. one step at a time :)

@NextGenRPN I will try to go for the PSW. Thank you for your words of wisdom!

Another thing i would suggest aswell is when your at clinical and stuff like that there is always a good chance at getting a job at thoes facilities for both psw and nursing, so always be prepared and have your stuff together. and if you hit it off with the staff on the floor and they seem to like you dont be afraid to ask them for a reference during your last couple clinical shifts, thoes could go a long way in possibly getting a job there or elsewhere.
