Working and Nursing School

Published

There is a chance that I may have to move out on my own by the end of the year. I have a small rainy day funds that i have been building for the past few years that would be enough to cover my expenses if i were to live with my parents. I'm sure that i can get some financial help from my sisters but it will put a strain on their finances. The current job i am in pays really well, and i do not believe i will have trouble going part time. Also, i am very good at budgeting my money and living on practically nothing. My concern is being able to work and go to school. Ive spoken to some friends who had to quit their jobs because they couldnt go to school and work. and others that worked and went to school.

Is there anyone out there that have worked and went to nursing school? How did you manage the work load, and working? Any pointers to help a girl out?

Working and going to school is certainly doable -- I did it as did many, many of us. I had a low paying job as a waitress and added another low paying job as a hotel maid during the summer and an intermittent bartending gig. I was also a wedding photographer a couple of times a month. I graduated from nursing school with a 3.9.

I've been working extra hours in anticipation of starting nursing school this fall. I am switching to a part-time position at the hospital I work at (two 12's a week) that way I'll only be scheduled those two days a week and can pick up more hours as needed. I may not always work on my floor, but the hospital always has caregiver hours to be picked up. A friend of mine just finished my school's nursing program while working with me.
