right now I have a job working at a resort where i make about 15 an hour. I have concidered trying to work for a hospital as a nursing student for experiance on the floor over my senior year, I graduate in may of next year. however, they only pay 10-12 an hour from what I have seen. with the poor economy the funding from my parents has droped alot so the extra money means alot to me. my question is how much will working in a hospital over my senior year help me and is it worth taking a pay cut for.

Where are you doing your training? In the UK (going by your flag) I knew many students that worked as HCA's and found it beneficial and also helped towards getting a job once qualified

I've been working in the hospital for the past 3 years and it has helped me SOO much. I think I'm actually at an advantage over many students because of this. I take it you are in a 2 year program? So you've at least got 1 year under your belt in the hospital so as far as working as an extern I'd think it's a great idea. I know the pay cut is depressing HOWEVER, you will be at such an advantage to be hired on, just be sure you go to the hospital you'd like to work at. Where I'm from (cali) the nursing shortage doesn't really exist anymore, new grads are NOT finding jobs and it's scarey. Those who've been in the hospital already are almost guaranteed a job right after graduation which is envious to those who have not externed.

Good luck in whichever you choose!
