so i just finished up my ADN program and pretty much decided im not going to work in the hospital until after my NCLEX, maybe not even til september. ive been lucky enough to be able to work during school so i have a decent job but im really kind of disappointed with my experience as a nurse so far. our programs ends with us working 12-12 hr shifts with a preceptor, alot of things really did come together for me and i got very high marks but im just burned. i feel like a pill pusher without time to even see how the pt is truly doing. not to mention the hospital acts like they own us because there arent to many gigs around here for health care. im also frustrated because i really thought id atleast have a clue of where i want to work. welp just seeing if anyone else is struggling with this.

i think you may just not be working where you need/want to be. the preceptor really brought things together for me. its been hard, yeah, but its cuz we always have to wait for someone else, or follow someone else, or get lectures from someone else. give it some time before you quit. once we are on our own, you can work how YOU want, at YOUR pace, and get to know your pt's.
but thats only my opinion.

You won't ever get the big picture for the pt if you never work. For the first 6-12 months, I think most new grads feel that they are pill pushers, that they don't have a handle on the big picture, and it is because they are new and just don't have the experience and time management skills it takes to see "the big picture."
I hope you are able to find a position that you feel comfortable in, that will allow you to grow and learn as a nurse so that you will be able to get to that point.
Good luck.

I'm not working as a GN either, our class has the opportunity to take ACLS right after pinning so those of us that opted for that can not begin new or transition employee orientation untill the end of July (we'll be licensed by then as we NCLEX 2nd week of July) when they have an opening, luckily I can continue to work as a unit clerk so I won't have no income untill then but I felt the ACLS was an opportunity that I shouldn't miss, surprisingly my husband Mr. hurry up and start working is on board with this as well lmao
