this will probably sound crazy to most of you, but ive never had a job at all.. i got married straight out of highschool 5 years ago and had a little girl last year.. recently ive decided to go back to school for nursing... really it was my daughter who made me want to set goals for myself. Maybe im a little spoiled, but its never been an issue as far a money goes, ive never needed to work and ive always just wanted to stay home and take care of my husband and baby..i guess youd call me old fashioned... anways to the real point.. ive never had a job period...i guess im just seeking advice on what moves to make now.. in all honesty im not ready to start work yet, my daughter wont be a year old until next week and i want to have a much time with her as possible...i havnt started school yet so i have plenty of time to get something to put on my resume i guess im just lost at where to start..

Go volunteer at a hospital or look into shadowing a nurse. Save the jobs for those of us that need them (sorry if that sounds rude). IF you end up deciding that nursing is for you then look into taking a CNA course and consider working as a CNA while doing pre requisite courses, that's what those of us who need jobs to get through school do! I'm not trying to be snarky and say don't persue nursing because you dont' need a job especially since there is no nursing shortage. I'm just saying look into other ways to get yourself exposed to what nursing is like volunteering and observing.

im planning to get my cna as soon as possible.. as far as needing a job i may not need it for the money(not that it wouldnt make things easier) but i need it for my own sanity if you know what i mean(lol)ive just never worked or been to college i want to be sure im making the best decisions to help me in the long run

Don't over worry about it or let your lack of work experience hold you back from pursuing a nursing job. Just start volunteering or working part-time.

It's great if you can work in healthcare, but any kind of job experience is better than none. It will help you learn how to balance work and family, handle job politics, and gain new skills. I've never had a job that didn't teach me something.

Start out as a CNA. Its a short, quick program and it'll give you experience and help you learn the basics. It'll help you decide if nursing is right for you.My CNA program was 2 months long and wasn't all day so you will still have time with your daughter. Then if you decide it isn't for you, then hey, it was just 2 months. But if you decide it is for you, then its great experience. Most RN programs want you to have CNA experience. Good luck!
