So I had my first taste of correctional nursing the other day. That pat down was tough. I felt like play dough in a toy store. The women were on lock down so I never saw them during the finger printing. Monday, I orientate the men's prison- what should I expect.... Honestly!

Before I discovered AN, I didn't even know there was such a thing as corrections nursing!
I'd be interested in reading more of your impressions as you start into this new line of work.
Hope it works out good for you!

Since you're a female the men are going to hit on you. If they are in ad seg/lock down be prepared for a lot of screaming & a lot of memberes. I was shocked my first time when I went to ad seg & the male inmates put their memberes through the food slot, but after awhile, you just get use to it.

The Florida Department of Corrections lost a major lawsuit for not taking steps to stop this. If your facility allows this to happen without officer intervention, they are running a major risk.

I have worked in both, I don't play the member games. I will write you up and I will confront you about it. Some officers will address it, and some won't . I was the only black RN and they never made it stop. So I handled it my self,
I believe I was able to write them up at the prison I worked at. I never happened at the county jail.
It should not be an expected or tolerated part of your work environment.
