when will I lean this ob stuff

iv been working in ob for about 4 months now. I have been a nurse for 6 years now but no ob experienc. it is still hard for me to find the cervix an know what cm pt is and i dont have a good coaching technique when it comes to pushing. any advise please. how long before u " get it".:confused:

    You can't just 'get it' without someone helping you out. I'm going for OB when I finish my RN, and even though I got a great hands-on clinical, I can't yet immediately tell you how dilated a patient is - it takes practice! But it sounds like you need help from a coworker or supervisor - watch their pushing techniques and talk to them about dilation and the rest. You can't just blindly figure it out on your own. Best of luck to you!

    I've heard about a year until you are comfortable with L&d on your own. I'm sure its hard because everyone's cervix is different!
