Who else here is PRN?

I am and I like it!

:redpinkhe

Specializes in LTC, Med/Surg.

In theory, being PRN has it's good things... But I just switched to PRN from an hourly position, and there are a few things I'm not happy about:

-The only shifts that are open are day shifts, which are my least favorite. The nanosecond that the schedule is published, other PRN's fill up all the evenings and nights, which I prefer. The day shift has some... unpleasant people, which is why no one wants to work with them.

-Getting a phone call every day at about five in the morning.

-Getting treated poorly because I'm a lowly PRN.

But if I was at a better facility I would probably like it. :smokin:

Yeah, my facility has some unpleasant day fools as well. What is the deal with that?

I can't believe they waited until 0500a to call you up!! When I first started as a CNA (and I wasn't even PRN) I made the *HUGE* mistake of giving the facility my home phone number. I would get calls at 0200a, nurses asking me if I wanted to come in for an hour at 0500a to get one or two people up. Uh, NOOO! Especially when they know that I just worked evening shift and have only been asleep for 3 hours. Yeah, thanks for that. From then on, they only got my cell phone number, which got turned off in the evening and didn't come back on until I woke up the next morning. If they have something truly important to say, my phone is on during the DAY TIME.

I'm neither the DON nor the administrator. I am a CNA. NOTHING is important enough to call me and wake me up in the middle of the night. Every single night. Yes, it would be ENTIRELY different if I were an RN or in some administrative position and were getting paid to be on-call. But I'm not. I barely make $10/hour. I will be an RN soon and will fully consider it then. But for now, I want my sleep. All 8 uninterrupted hours of it. Otherwise, I WILL show up for my next shift looking like this:

:hlk:

Nowadays, I just wake every morning with my phone telling me I have "x" new voice mails. :) Yeah, I know. ;)

Getting off of my soap box now. :spbox:
