Who is allowed to read a PPD??

Just curious and thought maybe some of the nurses on here could answer my question. I'm an LPN @ a pediatric practice in PA and I was supposed to have a pt come in today to have their PPD read. They didn't show up until another nurse and myself were @ lunch so the person @ the front desk read the PPD and marked it as negative (the pt was a child who needed to have the PPD done before they could go on a certain med, don't remember the name off the top of my head). Can they do this?? I thought only a nurse or a physician was allowed to read a PPD. Am I wrong about this?? Thanks in advance for any info/answers!!! :)

At the group I used to work for as an MA, the OSHA "nurse" was actually an MA and read PPDs all the time. I always thought that only licensed staff was supposed to be reading them, though.

I can't tell you if it is the way it should actually be or not -- but the community clinic I work in has the the MAs read the PPDs all the time
