Which CSU Nursing Program Should I Apply?

Published

Hello! Application season is approaching and I'm very indecisive with which CSU Nursing Programs I should apply. I tried researching for the requirements, points systems, etc. but it's hard to keep track of everything (since each program has different point systems for different requirements). So, if you guys can help me with what you know (perhaps, share to me the requirements for YOUR school and any school you applied to, that would be so much appreciated.

Here are my statistics:

Science GPA (Chemistry, A&P. No Microbiology yet, unfortunately. CSULA only offers it every Spring): 4.0

Prereq GPA (English, Statistics, Oral Comm, Critical Thinking): 4.0

TEAS Scores:

  • TEAS Adjusted Individual - 86.7%
  • TEAS Reading Individual - 90.5%
  • TEAS Reading National - 95%
  • Math Individual - 86.7%
  • Math National - 86%
  • Science Individual - 79.2%
  • Science National - 93%
  • English Individual - 93.3%
  • English National - 99%

My TEAS score isn't as great as I wanted it to be, but CSULA only counts the national score for both Reading and English, so I was focusing on that. BUT, if you tell me the requirements for other CSU Nursing Programs, I might be able to retake the TEAS exam and focus on other sections (such as the Math section for CSULB).

Thank you.

CSU's are so impacted, I'd cast the net far and wide. They all have about the same quality in programs but are all impacted to death. I'd highly recommend applying to every single one you can, I know it can be expensive but sitting around waiting to get in would be even worse.

Just apply to all csus. I mean, your GPA is definitely strong enough to meet all the programs, doesn't guarantee you anything though. You know what's more expensive than all those apps? Not getting into a program and waiting til the next cycle.

If you really want to study each school, do it yourself, trust your own information and research. Make a spread sheet

Apply to all of them. I didn't the first time. I only applied to the ones in the greater la area and got nothing. Second time I applied to all of them and got in to 2. I had to move but worth it

Since all of them have different requirements, I suggest you research each one by one and look at their admission statistics and calculate your potential points to see if you might have a chance to get into them. Some CSUs really favor the ones in their area so they give a lot of extra points to those people and practically makes it impossible for you to get in. Then cross off each CSU that you feel like you won't have a chance. That's what I did. But now I ended up applying for spring 2016 at sac state. At Sacramento state, you would have around 73 which won't cut it since it's predicted you need 79 to get in for spring (and 82 for fall if the trends continue) unless you have optional points from knowing a needed language, from 100 hours work experience, from economic disadvantaged family or from an environmentally disadvantage high school. Each optional criteria is worth 3 points so you can calculate it up.

I suggest you do this with all schools because it saves money imo... I mean with buying transcripts and TEAs scores and all that. Or you can apply to all like the others say if you're not worried about money like me. Lol.

But I do suggest you try to raise your Teas above 90. This will greatly improve your chances for most of them, I'm sure!!
