Hi,
I don't know where to start to get back into nursing. I have my BSN-RN but hardly any experience to so show. I had a military stint that stopped me from going straight from nursing school to a position. It's been so hard and when I came back I was in over my head burnt out before I even started. I took a long break worked in a parahealth position and had kids. Where do I even go from here. My interest is in Hospice or Mental Health Nursing. Is it possible to get back into the field? Words of encouragement would be great as I feel very alone in this field. I reached out to a few nurses for mentoring and they were not receptive. Thank you for reading :)

I'm not sure where you live, but I have seen a demand for Hospice and Mental Health/psych nurses even in the competitive market where I live. For whatever reason, those 2 specialties are not as popular for nurses as others like ER, critical care, L&D, Peds, etc, so it seems good that those are your areas of interest.
Maybe this is not the case everywhere, just my impression from personal experience and posts on this site. Having experience in the healthcare field is also a plus. You would probably be considered a new grad, but I have seen new grads be accepted and trained in both of these areas. And the world needs Psych and hospice nurses! Good luck = )

An RN refresher course will bring you up to speed with current nursing and help boost your confidence level. Many BON have list of approved programs on their website. Hospice requires solid clinical skills along with independent judgements, so might be a stretch for you. Inpatient Mental health position maybe better place to restart nursing career. Have you considered 1 on 1 pediatric home care shifts? Many peds agencies will provide short training program, can pick days of week available to accept work and often work well with family life, especially if willing to do night shifts.
Best wishes in finding the right nursing fit.
Thank you for your guidance ?
