When to apply for an Accelerated BSN program

Published

Hello, I have a few questions about my situation. I am currently taking my pre-reqs to apply for an accelerated BSN program. After this summer term, I have to take A&P2 and Microbiology, and then I can submit my application.

The program I am thinking about has a new class for fall, spring, and summer. I can either take A&P2 and Micro together this fall, and apply after that semester for potential acceptance to begin in the summer of 2014. My other option is to take A&P2 this fall, followed by Micro in the spring, then apply for the program that starts in the fall of 2014.

Obviously, it's easier if I took A&P2 and Micro separately. But I have heard that it's easier to get into the program that begins in the summer, vs the fall which may have more competition. Just wondering if this is typically true of ABSN programs, and if it's worth it to take both classes together just so I can start in the summer instead of the fall.

Also, any advice on just how difficult it is to take both A&P2 and Micro together? I got a solid A in A&P1 and for my chem class, I got an easy A too, if that's any indication of my potential.

Thanks in advance!

My ABSN program has only one start date (summer). We are only the 3rd class (first 2 had less than 30 students) and the first to max out at 30 students, so there isn't the demand yet for a second class start date. Starting the program in the summer was challenging (last final for the summer is next Wednesday).

Separating the classes depends on you. If you have a good understanding of the sciences then take them together. If they don't come easily then split them. It would make sense that there would be less applicants for summer start date, because some of the applicants have kids and don't want to start while their kids are out of school (vacations and distractions).
