What would you do?

If you had the chance to be an LPN at a hospital as a c-section scrub, which would also include some pre/post care of mom and newborn hearing testing in the nursery.

12 hour day/night rotation, every 3rd weekend and e/o holiday.

OR...

Specialty clinic LPN working with Dermatology, Plastic and Vascular Surgeons

What area of nursing interests you more? I would go with that.

I agree with Klone. I left a m-f no weekends no holiday schedule doing M W F occupational health T Th cardiac stress testing (ER agency whenever I wanted on the weekends) to do ***hired for nights**** /but ended up getting days ;) 12 hour every other weekend rotating holiday and call hours to work in L&D......and it is worth it to me. I love it----I think if you are going to do a tough schedule, it better be something you are willing to sacrifice for----- good luck! Tell us what u pick!!

So funny. I bet you'd get different responses depending on where you asked.

Did you pose the same question to the dermatology board?

;)

Um, if I had the chance, I'd opt for the OB position. But that's just me. Not much interest in derm/plastic surgery.

But I second the previous poster recommending that you do what interests you most!

Yes, I didn't mean to post this in OB/GYN, but under a general or LPN corner, but I did post another question under this topic on the OB scrubbing itself. My biggest fear is actually never having done shift work and holidays, but also wondering the pros and cons to the position and if anybody stays in it long term. I think I would enjoy both, but they are very different.

thanks :)

I think it depends on how much you value your nights, weekends, and holidays. I waited 18 years to go to nursing school just to become a L&D nurse. I love being a L&D nurse, it is very fulfiling work. BUT I am changing jobs to another field that is also interesting but not my "dream job" because the hours are better. i despise giving up time with my family and also being tired all the time due to working nights. Good luck in your decision!

I work in ob nocs and I am super happy there. I am good with sacrificing social time and all that for now. Who knows how ill feel in another year though! I don't feel like holidays are that big a deal, I just do them on a different day with my family and it eliminates the stress. You should have rotating holidays so it won't be every major holiday you miss.
