What steps are there in the hiring process?

Any nurse managers or recruiters out here know exactly whats involved in a new hire?

Just wondering what goes on behind the doors

I guess im thinking in terms of steps involved like:

1. submit application/resume

2. recruiters look it over- do back ground check

3. interview

4. check references/previous job manager

5. submit to HR?

6.?

They might not waste time and money on a background check unless they think they may hire you -- after the interview. In my hospital it goes like this:

1. Submit application

2. Recruiters do an initial screening and choose potential candidates out of the big pile of applications

3. Recruiters do a phone interview to further screen the chosen applicants

4. Interview with hiring manager (and whoever else is involved in the decision-making process)

5. If chosen by hiring manager, references are checked

6. If all goes well with reference check, offer is extended

7. Preliminary meeting with HR where consent is signed for the criminal background check. Occupational health screening completed the same day.

8. Criminal background completed. If clean, then the person is scheduled for orientation.

When I was hired recently at a large visiting nurse assocation, the process went like this: Faxed the recruiter my resume, got called in for an interview with two managers of two different divisions of the same company, interviewed with the managers, one hired me on the spot for their inpatient hospice facility, the other called me at the end of the week with an offer to do per diem crisis care shifts. I accepted both positions, of course.:) Then I completed new hire paperwork with HR, a background check and drug screen were performed, references were checked, a back screen done and then I had orientation two weeks later. All in all, the process took about three weeks.

I gave my resume to the manager, interviewed 2 days later, she called me the next day to say I had the job. I started 2 weeks later.I had worked there during a clinical placement so I had no orientation, just hit the floor running.
