What is the role of your trauma program coordinator??

What exactly is the trauma program coordinator responsible for? At my last job the trauma coordinator taught TNCC and the TNS class and did some quality assurance work, but aside from that she was never seen in the department. At my current job, it seems to be the same. I want to believe there is more to the job than what I can see. Any input?

Depends on if your trauma program coordinator is also your registrar. If so, he/she is probably doing a lot of paperwork shuffling and chart audits, PI projects, etc. There are a lot of requirements to maintain trauma designation - it's a lot of work.

They are in charge of maintain compliance with the trauma certification. Just like your ACLS card, there are requirements that must be met along with periodic surveys. This includes the physical layout, education, staffing, and so on. They will do QA and keep track of the records. I am the trauma educator at my hospital so I work closely with the coordinator. I liaise with the staff when education issues are noted. In the ERs that I've worked they usually communicate with staff through the educator or the manager. I'm sure the arrangement varies in each organization.
