Why is it that these nursing students post threads regarding their concerns or frustrations only to lash back at us when we offer them our friendly (or not-so-friendly) advice? I am so sick and tired of offering advice only to have these people come back with... "you aren't a CRNA so your advice is no good". I mean it's not like I haven't been through nursing school or anything!
So, for all of you nursing students who read this... Please, realize that we are ONLY trying to help you! There are some posters on this site that handle your valid concerns in a very unprofessional manner. Just take it with a grain of salt and get used to it!

I saw the posts you are referring to and the poster had asked for only CRNAs/SRNAs to respond on the anesthesia forum... I think the poster's only real concern was how their less than 4.0 GPA would affect their admission application into nurse anesthesia school. Why would you even respond to that particular question in the nurse anesthesia forum if you weren't an SRNA or CRNA unless you had intimate knowledge of nurse anesthesia admission process?
Actually, it was under the general nursing discussion section... That is why I gave advice...
Correction - I meant to say the main page of allnurses.com... I was only trying to be helpful... And, FYI both my fiance and best friend have gone through the anesthesia school admissions process and I know how competitive it is... I was just trying to offer some advice...

I saw this post when it first came up and unless it was changed the 1st day it was up it has always been on the anesthesia forum. It still doesn't address the fact if someone asks for advice from a particular specialized nurse, whether they are OB/ICU/ER or anesthesia, why respond unless you can provide that specialized advice? Then why should you get upset when the poster doesn't want your advice because you don't have intimate knowledge of what they want to know.
I think if you would have come out and said that my fiance and best friend had gone through the nurse anesthesia admissions process the poster might have been much more responsive to your advice. I know I would have.

To be fair to Steffers unless you have a specific part of the forum bookmarked, if you type in http://www.allnurses.com you will come to the homepage. The homepage lists current topics being discussed across many boards. This being said if you ran down that list, saw something that interested you and clicked on it, it could be very easy to wind up in another of the some fifty forums here on the site.
As far as the advice given all I can say is take their comments with a grain of salt. I do believe that sometimes when we are excited to help we jump in without taking into account some of the finer details of the post. I know I do it on occasion myself, which means I often wind up editing when I go back and read it a little slower.
I do believe that a vast majority of students looking for advice are respectful, courteous and appreciative.
I am sorry the persons in the other thread made you feel you weren't worthy to post to them. I can definitely understand how that could make you feel upset or hurt.
