I work adolescent psych and just lately I have had a slew of youngsters admitted after suicide attempts. It surprises me how many parents push super hard to get their kids out of the hospital quickly - as if their kid didn't just overdose less than 3 days ago. Super frustrating day today - can't go into specifics due to HIPAA and one never knows who's reading these posts.

I've seen the same thing a lot over the years. I think it's honest, basic denial -- parents just can't wrap their minds around the idea that their kid could actually have done such a thing and could actually be in danger, esp. when they have no prior experience in the family with anyone attempting or completing suicide. It's not anything they're doing intentionally; they just have no ability to really take the situation seriously.
