Does anyone else frequent other, maybe more progressive online nursing forums?

Ummm....define what you mean by progressive, first, please.
I can't imagine anyone wanting to go somewhere else?!?!?!?!? I love this forum!!!!
Perhaps not so heavily moderated?
I don't know; I just feel very confined sometimes here.
So, I guess you could scratch the word "progressive" and just help me with the question "What other nursing oriented forums are available?"
Thanks!!!

Many of the professional nursing organizations have forums, but I haven't spent a lot of time on those and have not found them to be less restrictive. Most of those forums are frequented by people who are sharing professional information with each other with little indepth discussion or debate -- useful, but more boring than allnurses.
I have mixed feelings about the restrictions here. I've been involved in online discussion groups (not always nursing) since the mid-1990's and have been involved in all types of discussions. Some have been so contentious and full of flames that it prevents meaningful dialog. For that reason, I willingly censor myself here so that I can participate as an active member of allnurses. I understand that many nurses are not used to the total free-for-all debates that occur within other groups -- and if I want to be an effective communicator within nursing, I have to live within the commonly held nursing cultural standards for communication. It's the necessary price of being successful. The same is true in my job: I can't go around offending people if I want them to welcome me and my ideas.
However ... I do sometimes find myself a little constrained here and sometimes wish I could write as freely as do in some other forums. So, I think I understand what you mean.

Thank you. I think that every forum has a "personality" as it were, and I'm just looking for a better fit. No disrespect intended for allnurses.com; it's fine. But I'm just looking to expand a bit and perhaps find something that, for lack of better term, jives with me a little better.
Thanks!

What specialty are you involved in? You might find some good specialty forums out there, but I think this is by far the largest general nursing forum. I've never found it difficult to stay within the Terms of Service and avoid intervention from the moderators, so I'm not sure what to tell you there.

hi lori,
there are numerous online discussion groups for nurses. most of the different companies such as aol, yahoo, and msn have message boards and discussion groups. you can look for nursing groups on those and on specific sites such as the ana.
i am sure just "googling" nurse message boards would present several options. hope this helps and i can tell you that after years of searching for a place to really "be" a nurse, be myself, and contact others and network and learn, i really like this place the best.

This is the Allnurses board. It's not really appropriate to ask members this question is it?
